Alcoholism and Hope

Oh, how we loathe those who drink, Such sinners, such losers, they are! But we think we certainly are far more than perfect? As we drive high on pot, drugs and booze zooming our oh, so saintly cars? We stamp their foreheads with big letters, "DOOMED" Never realizing that praying to God, is the very least we can do. It's tragic for all involved, the drinker, the family and all his friends, too. They make him or her the evilest and of him as a human, they loathe and eschew. Having no idea that lawyers, priests, writers, actors, teachers and children as young as thirteen. At this very moment attending AA meetings, their desire to be clean and sober is astonishingly keen! It's never to late to live! Unless you know someone who has overcome this most daunting task. You are doomed to think they are lost with their face in a glass. Untrue, a lie, please have faith in the Lord for healing, on your knees be kneeling with some feeling? Only Satan wants you to buy into the concept, that there is no room and no hope for healing. Dedicated to the alcoholics who still suffer, their families and friends! This is a great write with a very meaningful message, Panagiota. I am so sorry to hear of the loss of your husband. You say he passed at a young age so I assume it was a while ago. No matter, I am sure your heart still aches. Alcohol is as bad as any drug out there...I have lost a number of friends from the cause of the bottle. Thanks for sharing. Love, Charlie

Hi, Charles! Hope you are smiling today. Sorry you lost friends. Me, too. There is hope! Have you seen Chantelle's reply. She is a profile in courage. There are other recovering alcoholic- poets here. I understand them keeping their anonymity. My husband died decades ago. My heart sings of joyful remembrance. Like most of my poetr,.upfront! Thank you, dear poet. Panagiota xx

Panagiota, thank you for using your words for good. To encourage those who have lost hope. The greater sin is hypocrisy - to look down on someone suffering because we think we are better than they are. ~ John

Hello John~ unfortunately hypocrisy rules. To be quite blunt...always Good to have an Alkie in the family or as a friend. That way, the non drinker, gets to have a halo. Great way to wash your hands of the problem. We dweebs who write Poetry can be arrogant as heck. Read the Poems that trash the alcoholic. I know people here have lost people to this DISEASE. They just don't get it...it's a hideous disease. And no, they will not comment to this poem. Alanon is great for the hopeless. It gives them concrete ways to work on it.I did list other sources for other addictions. Thanks John. Lives are on the line.
