Agonistes

I cannot imagine a world without antagonists Although I've thought it clearly more fun Minus those in whom argumentation persists Arguing for argument’s sake, getting little done But coming across as an expert, they’ll insist. Look no further than the Congress of the U.S.A. For grandstanders who delight in rebuttal Would we could hold up their annual pay, And on election day, tell them all to scuttle, For progress, they continually get in the way. Most of them think more highly of themselves Than they ought; not so intelligent, I’m told, Always trying to convince their mind delves Into important issues, they search for minor gold On election day, let’s return them to the shelves.

I honestly can't figure out any way to govern. What ever we try soon descends into solely a power play. My dad used to say you can put all your marbles in a jar but when you shake it, the big ones still come to the top1 Elizabeth

Good idea... and mute them like elves on the shelves, but not just during the holiday season.
