Age Doesn'T Matter When You'Re In Love
When two people are in love age shouldn’t matter,
except when one of the couples is underage and the public will chatter.
He was sixteen, I was ten.
He would hold my hands and spin me round and round
like a propeller on a helicopter.
My head would get woozy,
and butterflies tickled in the pit of my stomach.
I was so wanted his attention.
His eyes were on other girls his age.
He was twenty-four, I had just turned eighteen.
The man I had loved for six years finally noticed I was a woman.
He held in his hands a small gift wrapped in gold ribbon.
His gaze never left mine.
My legs grew week and my stomach fluttered.
As he held my face in his hands and said,
“Happy Birthday."
“I don’t want to lose you.”
I uttered the words, “I love you.”
With a gold ring on my finger and a promise I said, “I do!”
Thirty-six years of marriage
still passionately in love.
