Against River Time
When, at reunions, classmates
seem so much older than you,
you feel triumphantly younger,
from your own point of view.
Don't you ever fool yourself,
look into other mirrors;
with less vain eyes, look closer
for unaccounted errors.
Refusal to see through
vanity's insecurity,
bloated but tightly tucked-in
tummy, hyperacidity;
eye bags, deeply-furrowed brows,
fine, bluish veins and crow's feet;
against the flow of River Time,
there's nothing but defeat!
