After the Movies

After the Movies
Valentine’s Day Night 1959

Curiously with a
slant of his face
my chin turned up
and then the embrace.

A teenaged kiss in
in his best friend’s car
while Johnny Mathis sang,
“Chances Are”

So close, so close 
as I nuzzled his cheek
he whispered “I love you” 
can we do this next week?
