After the Midnight Feast

The night has been so long and still the dawn comes near,
And daylight would clear the horizon that I fear.
Owls fly back to their nests after the midnight feast
And I, lonely in my room watch the morning mist.
For under the moon’s glowing grace our flock reunites
And my mind, my heart, my soul are in total heights.
Skin to skin and hand in hand, you and I,
Your scent surrounds me as you pass on the rye.
And I am caged to warmth by your arms
So in the darkness I can feel no harm.
But now the light rays sneak on our place,
One by one I hear farewell and no one stays.
I curse the sun for showing off in haste,
The owls dismayed, the day’s a waste.
Patiently I’ll wait for the night to come
Till the owls would feast, you’ll hear me hum.
