African America Mind

People who were taken from Africa
and taken to the shores of
England and America
worked night and day singing
and humming songs along
the way.

They worked for years through
their hurt and tears; they cried
and worked everywhere. They
sang songs to the sky about
a living God in the by and by.

They were freed after a Civil War--
how many dead, there's no score.
Music was a way out because it
a better living is what life's about.

First, there were blues, which became
jazz; the world loved the music and
it grew fast. Jimi Hendrix created
rock 'n' roll,; James Brown was the
King and godfather of soul.

Hip Hop was created by the Sugar Hill
Gang, which expresses the stories of urban
life and youthful pain. Now it's the
dominant music of these times
and tells what's going on in today's
youthful minds.

It's music that makes people think and
play, like they do today. Music of our
future times will mostly like come
from an African American's mind.
