Addiction

Completely confused I don't remember inviting you in yet there you stood a seductive charlatan so smug and cocky taking charge of my life. With twisted words you wove a strangling web from which I hung in false hope awaiting the fulfillment of empty promises. I gave you everything even that which wasn't mine to give and you rewarded me with a lingering fear of uncertainty a hopelessness so deep that only death could bring relief.

Any addiction will swallow you whole, if you allow it. Most do. It is difficult freeing yourself of an addiction, yet- it is possible. With determination and strength. This is so beautifully written and presented. ~ Brandy

Yes indeed, it took me many years to beat mine. It started at the age of 15, I finally beat it 10 years ago. However I'm not cured it's just in remission.

Wow, Robert, this is a stunner. It reminds me a bit of my own The Slave Maker but yours is so much more evolved. I hope I don't become addicted to you;)

You delivered the contest so effectively in this poem--it evokes the emotions intended. Superb lines like ..I gave you everything--even that which wasn't mine to give.
