Across the universe

Flashing stars blush when caught—ignite
Through blue rock darts in sparkling light

"Across the universe"—swart crown
Pools of grief—waves of mirth are down

Scribes bid adieu in sapphire smoke
Spilling gold in a dying stroke

I doubt whether the sky still roused
The stars that once blazed and have doused

I love how you personify the stars in the first line, “Flashing stars blush when caught—ignite”—it’s so vivid and immediate, almost like the universe is shy under observation. Your use of colour and movement throughout “blue rock darts,” “sapphire smoke,” “spilling gold” makes the cosmos feel alive, but also tinged with melancholy. Login to Reply
