Acoustic Shadows

He was a loud spirit slinking down the hall
Haunting you hear it the loudest quiet talk
Neither friend nor foe just a void in the air
Seems to have been yet is definitely there

Stealing the air from the room like a tomb
His presence isn’t soothing nor should it doom
Sticking to the corners and avoiding light
More powerful there and in the bowels of night

Some say he was a soul from years ago
That a horrific tragedy torments his soul
Doing no harm in his dark pitiful form
He is like a ghoul devoid of any charm

Even this poor thing has a purpose
A cautionary tale told to serve us

Your lovely rhyming poem causes an image of a spirit that is almost friendly. Unlike some haunting, this one seems to have a voice. I like how you left the reader wondering. Good luck with the contest.

I like your rhyming in this poem and how you took the unusual theme. Good luck in this contest. It's one I won't be entering. The topic alone eludes me on what to do with it!

It wasn’t your typical prompt that’s for sure. But you may be inspired or come up with an idea for it later. There’s still time. Thanks for reading.
