Acorns

Autumn aromas. Apple crisp, pumpkin spice, cinnamon cider, Watch out, a spider! Crisp air and cozy coming. Chestnuts roasting, marshmallow toasting, turkey roasting, host boasting. Oak branches cover their little brown spinning beginnings. Solid trees regal and strong, two of them hold an owl’s song, outdoors: orange, yellow, brown, fluttering down. Raking. Reading, reflecting, red delicious eating. Nippy nature walks. Napping. November moon, are you ready? Winter soon. Scratchy scarecrows sneak through spooky corn mazes. Scenic foliage, campfire blazes.

My grandson found an Acorn top and was absolutely thrilled. He never seen an acorn other than in a book and he identified it. I like your style of writing, it has a certain whimsy to it. Thanks for your kind visits yesterday.

Bless his heart. They are fun little guys aren't they? I used them in my classroom years ago to teach counting and also still shellac them to put in a silver bowl at Thanksgiving. I am flattered by your comment Richard. Merci.

This caught my eye because when I was younger I found an acorn and plated it near the curb of my front lawn. The tree grew to be much taller than my house. Also, I created toys called "Acornaghans" but I never proceeded with it. They were plastic acorns with cute painted faces kind of like Mr. Potato Head (lol) Lovely write, Marikate. Hugs Charlie

Hello Charles, I'm terrible at getting back to kind or funny comments. What a grand endevour, your idea for an acorn toy. They would be so cute and I'm sure would sell out quickly. Their name would attract many buyers. Interesting little guys aren't they? Facinating how they grow into one of the hardest & strongest trees. Thanks for your kind comment Charles. PS. I loved Mr Potato Head :)

Thank you Heidi, I enjoyed writing this one. Acorns are fun I think. I sometimes shellac them and use them to decorate inside glass vases. I appreciate such a nice praise. :)

You've created a wonderful Autumnal tapestry of sights, tastes and smells here Marikate. I like your own take on an acrostic that allows extra flexibility for your descriptions. It works wonderfully well. Your reference to spinning beginnings reminds me of something - the sycamore tree that overlooks our garden here in England from which many brown (helicopter) spinning seeds fall. :) Cheers - Gary

Hello Gary. Thank you for your praise, coming from a seasoned poet like you, it's wonderful. Your sycamore tree sounds lovely. Underneath, a place to sit with tea perhaps ?

Merci mon ami. I am so pleased you liked it! It was fun to write. I am not sure if those who were nice to read my poem knew that the line: "Oak branches cover their little 'brown spinning beginings' meant that they covered their acorns below. Have a terrific day! Merci encore. :)

I am flattered by your praise. Thank you so much. It was fun to write. The line that reads: Oak branches cover their 'little brown spinning beginnings' refers to their 'acorns' below the oaks in the grass or sidewalk. :) Thank you again.

I’m a summer person. I like how you played with this form. Normally I’m not a fan of Acrostic. This piece is an exception.

Thank you for your thoughtful comment Richard, it was so nice to read. I guess it is not a true acrostic poem though. It was fun to write as it brought back memories of living in Vermont years ago. :0)

I am honored. Thank you for saying such a nice thing. "Little brown spinning beginnings "are acorns" above. We are always stepping on them here if the squirrels don't get them first :)

Hello Eve. I don't think this was a true acrostic poem. I probably should have named it a different kind of poem. I'm so pleased you liked it. Thank you. :)
