Abuntu

ABUNTU

I say to you
ABUNTU
I am 'because we are
many of time
we lose ourselves
believing ,our way
is the only way

We forget
where we come from
take on cultures
not belonging to us
Forgetting wo
we really are

We forget
what our grandparents
went through
slavery. forced religions
taking away pieces
leaving us with
the crumbs .the ashes
the remnants
of who .we are

We yes i say we
must understand
that although we
are here today
Nothing has changed
from that of past
We in one form
or another
are still
encapsuled in
ignorance

WE dont look
at what is
in the eyes of today
there is nothingness

how many of us see
the eyes of the homeless
as we just .walk past them
how many of us
can feel the pain
in the stomachs of the hungry

yet many sleep
eyes affixed to i pads
i phones galaxy's
in neglect of seeing
the real galaxy
right above us

untill the day we again
open our eyes
we will continue
in the paths
of our ancestors
slaves
mentally bound
physically bound
suckers for technology
solo egotistical
only seeing self

so i say unto you
one word
ABUNTU
I AM BECAUSE WE ARE
UNITED TO CHANGE
STARTING WITH SELF
AND ENDING WITH WE
ABUNTU
I AM BECAUSE WE ARE

David I Love the title, being african I know exactly what it means and how much weight it carries. Thank you for creating this poem in the spirit of oneness and togetherness. For together we are strong, and divided we are weak.
