Absentia

Come once more and be my light
Oh lover who abandoned me
End this darkness of the night

Once I knew your radiance bright
And dwelt in your embrace
Come once more and be my light

Unwritten absence, know my plight
Though your purpose firmly fixed
End this darkness of the night

Unfaithful, I, and short of sight
Now your mercy do I seek
Come once more and be my light

I’ve done for you all that I might
My dry and empty soul now pleads
End this darkness of the night

My body now grows frail and slight
Yet still you are my heart’s delight
Come once more and be my light
End this darkness of the night

Those opening lines and the depth of emotions flowing throughout this poem left me in awe feeling so much. I read this few times and I couldn’t help but admire the rhymes and rhythm of longing that you’ve articulated so effortlessly! Thank you for writing. Congratulation on winning in my contest

The longing is strong in this poem. It expresses a powerful yearning. Vulnerable and soul searching. That void I pray will be filled with positive energy be it Godly or otherwise self actualizing. Thanks for sharing.
