About a Girl

I can’t write about you
It never comes out the way I want it to
Don’t get me wrong
I love writing about you
But I don’t want to look back at my art shameful of it’s outcome
Especially if it’s about you

I write haikus because they’re easier to phrase
Straight to the point
But I used to hate haikus
I always thought they were pointless
Short and not well thought out

I thought they were a lazy attempt at giving something meaning
I don’t know what happened
But something changed my mind

I try to write long poems about you
But I get lost in thought
I write without thinking
And when I read what I’ve written
I want to burn it

This isn’t even a poem at this point
I see no passion in what I’ve written
Just a confession that I’ll look at a few days from now and never touch again
These words stuffed with meaning they weren’t supposed to have
Will collect dust
Until I decide it’s time to say goodbye

I’m sorry I can’t write a long poem about you
I hope you still like the short ones.
