Abbotsford Road
I'm swept up in mixed emotions
when I walk down Abbotsford Road.
They fill my memory-ocean
where waves of feeling erode
the moments from my childhood
when time was an endless stream
of games and imagination,
of very first hopes and dreams.
The trees have grown so tall,
as they reach toward the sky.
The gardens flourish and sprawl
past lilacs that sway and sigh
against the backyard gate,
which I've pushed a thousand times
to watch the apple blossoms
fall from trees we used to climb.
The house still looks the same,
though I know it's changed inside.
Someone else is dreaming dreams
in the room that once was mine.
