Abandonment

we have seen tremulous hearts
seeking, securing adoption
of a child abandoned
or underprivileged

then time passes
initial fervour is lost
what was boon is bane
the object secured discarded

we are not judging
merely observing
the fickle heart

This makes me think of the kids in foster care or adoptions that are perhaps not in loving homes. Some are just a check or financial gain to families. I have heard horror stories. I also recall a cousin who was in the system a few years until her family won her back. She was never the same. Good to bring about awareness.
