A Wish For You
Spirit voices echo
In the hills above my eyes
I can hear them calling out
To the ground and to the skies
Indifferently moving
Slowly passing through
The leaves on the trees were forest-green
The sky was cobalt blue
Slipping through memories
Sun on my back
My heart is spilling over
My legs, they go slack
Silently waiting
The movement rings true
Cautiously dreaming
Its life, anew
There proof of a storm coming
There’s holes in the Earth
I had a vision of a hurricane
On the morning of your birth
We dream until we’ve had it
We dream until we snap
We run until we’re weary
When symptoms overlap
Forcefully separate
Kindness from pain
Wiping off my forehead
Sweet summer rain
And if you falter
And break someone’s heart
Looking out for something
A brand new start
And peace,
Peace like the eye of a hurricane
And pressure,
Like the sky falling down
With my trembling voice, I whisper
My darling, you can fly
So starting with your left foot
And knowing just what’s right
Building up the courage
To step into the light
Through pastures of heartache
Harvesting your time
To share something amazing
With your hand in mine
I wonder how many turns
We’ll have to take
To get back to the garden
To see what we can make
I’m blinded by memories
Stranded by thought
Bouncing through my lifetime
To make sure (8 counts) you are not
Everybody sees it
But no one wants to look
It’s like the days were torn away
Like pages in a book
You open up your heart one day
And see another place
One that’s filled with open air
And the line to another race
Even if someday
The darkness returns
Everybody sees it
But no one ever learns
I’ll never tell you
To go down and out
It is just the way I learned
What life, is all about…
