A Window to Winter

Outside, the storm raged violently,
And temperatures dropped to minus one.
Yet, in my bedroom, all was cosy and warm
The fireplace roaring with plenty of logs.
I stood behind the thick window panes,
Then, all misty with my warm breath.
I cleaned a part and looked outside.
The avenue was devoid of customers.
As rain pelted down heavily on bare trees.
Then, the wayward wind veered abruptly.
Icicles began to form on the balcony's edge.
Lightning, like serpents, flickered from side to side
Followed by the booming rumble of thunder.
I drew the curtains and switched on a night lamp.
Added some logs to upkeep the warmth.
I retreated to bed and huddled near my wife.
Let winter do its worst; I was now warm and content.
