Notes About The Poem

For Benjamin Bartley's Souper Suessy Poetry Contest

A Who Thanksgiving

The Who’s were all gathered one Thanksgiving day.
Their little brains pondered what games they might play.
They’d already feasted so royally that
they couldn’t stand up from the place where they sat.

They’d hobgoblin-gobbled their fish with no break
when they pigged out on pork and a juicy beast steak.
On Yorkshire pudding so puffy and yummy
they soaked up their gravy and filled up their tummy.

They tore into trifle. Someone blew a raspberry!
Toffee pudding so sticky made each Who so merry.
They guzzled mulled wine - those Who over-eaters.
Oh how they guzzled those big wine-filled liters.

They’d wanted to think up fun games, but each Who,
by the time they stopped feasting, could not a thing do!
Their tooting and pooting turned into their game,
and I’m thankful no Who in that room lit a flame!

Andrea, this does remind me of something I might see in a Dr. Seuss work. The who are quite a bunch. Do they remind you of anyone you know? Hope you are well and have a great end of year!! Smiles!!

So cute and funny! Those Whos down in Whoville know how to celebrate but (whisper) I hear they are an awful thankful bunch too, whether they have much or nothing.

Alas!! If only human and who's methane gas would burn, then we could heat our homes for so much less. I like the flow, rhythm, and rhyme in this one. The theme was delightful. Thank you for sharing. If it is for a contest, it reads like a good contender to me. Way to go. Sara k

Dear Andrea, such a fun read, I could picture the Whos feasting and laughing together. The way you described their over-the-top eating made me smile, especially the trifle and toffee pudding moments. I loved how you ended with that playful twist, it felt like a perfect Seuss-style wink. Holiday Blessings, Dear Andrea, Daniel

It leans favorably to Suessy’s point of view. Best to you.
