A Welcome Quiet
The waiting room is quiet;
The wall TV is off,
The only noise a conversation
Or a random cough.
Oh yes, the elevator beeps
When opening its door,
But otherwise, it’s peaceful,
Rarely noticed anymore.
I’m used to TV’s blaring
With a talk show or the news,
Which no one ever watches
As celebrities enthuse.
Yet today, I’m being treated
To civility and calm
Which, when visiting a doctor,
Is a lovely, welcome balm.
