A walking catfish
Zigzags out of the swamp
In search of a new place to invade
I chance upon it
A visual marvel it is
Wide mouth
Sharp pectoral-fin spines
Equipped with four pairs of barbels
Moist, glistening gray
Somewhat serpentine
Roaming loose and free
As if like a boat
Adrift from its moorings
Look at it wiggle
Snaking its way through terra firma
With its pectoral fins
Seducing my eyes
Look at it move
Like a soldier
Crawling under a volley of gun-fire
In a sanguine battlefield
Choked with tall grass
Is this its way of charming me?
Or is it simply just slithering along
Without a care in the world?
A fish out of water
A fish out of water, indeed.
