The storm did dampen the traveled path
and caused blemish to most late-autumn
leaves, still attached, clinging to life. Like
a stoic sentry, a lone owl stands guard on
a snake-like, old naked branch. His visage
seems pernicious, as his orange-gold eyes
scan for prey- on this nightly, programmed
enterprise. Proceeding, I traverse the dark
muddy, path. At once, my surroundings turn
more astral, as the clouds whirl and tumble
neath the moonlit sky- while the beastly owl
flies down toward me- claws braced for an
attack! Suddenly- I sit up- heart pounding
wildly! Now- so thankful- just a nightmare!
