A Vice You Love-Contest

A Vice You Love Contest
Sponsor: Rob Carmack

If I had to pick my most undesirable vice,
My first thought was that I can be a little possessive,
And as my mind started racing unruly,
It had to be my mind is constantly obsessive.

Fear... of being out of control...keeps me awake,
And as I start to fall asleep, my eyes wide open,
Reasoning with my psyche, tossing and turning,
My ability to dream has been torn and broken.

Disturbing moments of destroyed observations,
Time wasted on clutter built up in my insanity,
Revealing all my neurotic complications,
I see no understandable remedy indefinitely.

The instant anxiety I feel when I get in my car,
The what if's and consuming thoughts,
What will I do if I get into a car accident?
I can only hope that it's not my fault.

Those thoughts lead to will I make it on time,
I can't be late for that important meeting,
So I show up an hour too early,
My heart races and I can't control my breathing.

How about that time I turned on the news,
There was a tornado down in Tennessee,
Oh no! My sister lives there!
It becomes a tormenting catastrophe.

Then that time my husband lost his job,
I can't control the unmanageable obsessing,
How will we pay bills, afford food?
My unfortunate wild emotions progressing.

Please save me from my weakness,
And bring me to a peaceful state of mind,
May I learn to let go and try to relax,
It's sad that I will never be able to rewind.

But when I think long and hard,
About how my worry can be a benefit,
I need to go to the Lord for help,
For He is my saving requisite.

This terrible secret of a vice so rewarding,
One probably wouldn't believe,
Even though it's crazy to love such a thing,
The Lord gives me constant relief.

Such a heartfelt poem, Laura. Your last stanza holds the answer...I can't think of a better vice. Congratulations on your win in the contest. Hugs, Sandra

Deep breathing and meditation help me to sleep. It is difficult to shut off the mind but it is possible with practice. I can identify with the message in your poem Laura and it is well written! Best of luck in the contest. I haven't seen this one yet.

I would advise you to sit and take a deep breath....as for me, well I let mary protect me from myself....because my thoughts are relentless, always speeding through my mind....but with God Guiding me, peace is always easy to find....so you can continue to stress to possibly have a nervous breakdown on day....or you find a new vice, grab your man and the marvin gaye....lol....excellent write laura but stressing too much is never good....;)

Thank you Eric :) I am doing a lot better than I used to be. But I will agree with you that the Lord will answer all my prayers and without His love and mercy I would have not been able to come this far in my life. I am so grateful for Him and for my wonderful family for being my rock and loving me so much. :) -LU xxx
