A Verse of Obscure Meaning
The elephant in the room
The elephant in the room reclined, comfortably, on the couch;
Trunk curled and tail curled, an engaging feather boa
Draped gracefully about the shoulders, and a
Slightly crushed tutu contrast to the Holmesian
Meerschaum pipe creating a modest smoke screen
To obscure the real intent of meeting.
At either end of the unspoken beast an erudite
Philosopher sits, eager to pontificate with wisdom
And make observation with subjective insight into the
Purport and meaning of their world view, somewhat
As viewing obverse and converse of common coin,
Heads and tails, yin and yang, truth and falsehood.
And the forward of the philosophers observes that
The rare trumpeting signifies a gracious engagement
With the common world. Be-times, the more nether
Philosopher opines that the world seems somehow
Indifferent to the wants and needs of the rear;
Indeed they are shat upon, in the common vernacular.
And those, at the bottom end of the world, un-impressed
By tutu, or elegant spirals of fragrant smoke, ask why?
Elephant-in-the-Room, why? What is your intent,
And why do you dangle the lure of engagement,
Yet like the infuriating fisherman who teases the trout,
Never commit to the eternal chase?
