A Valentine's Heart
A Valentine’s Heart
I wanted to send you my heart
but knowing the mess of me
I choose another’s.
Wal-Mart’s shelves well packed.
They have everything you need.
A little befuddled in choosing, I saw an older man there.
He wanted a heart too, on Valentine’s Day.
We roamed the aisles - so many to choose.
His name on the list – credit card ready.
They all came in neat, tidy fabric boxes
Shiny red - big and small - smelling of roses - stuffed full.
I found one that I wanted as mine
and turned to pay – seeing him - standing
I asked if he needed help.
He smiled weakly,
“I wanted one that beats.”
