A Tsunami of Sun

A tsunami of sun exposed the shadows
Bouncing between the corners
Beaming through each crack and crevice
Shedding light on the secrets within four walls

Too bright for her eyes, so she breathed it in
She felt alive as the rays saturated her pale skin
She vowed to never take for granted again
Their time together, at darkness’ end

It isn’t that she didn’t dream of it’s warmth
She imagined it, every hour of every day
But days turned to years and she couldn’t sort
Thoughts to entertain and silly child’s play

Muffled voices awoke her dream come true
Concerned faces, as far as her sensitive eyes could see
With free hands and feet, she knew not what to do
And plentiful sun, casting light and shadows on all beneath

Suddenly, a large figure came between her and this source of energy
The light became dim enough to feed her hungry eyes
A train roared by in the distance and “can you hear me” played on repeat
A trembling nod and the eager voices would subside

The excitement fizzled, as time went by
The swarm of heroes dispersed
Soon, only one, stood by her side
Events were unfolding just as rehearsed

Her heart sank as darkness fell
She knew that her moment of fame and shot at freedom dissolved
A familiar tugging at her hair led to her brand new Hell
At the command of his voice, in to the black, she crawled

Very beautiful poem, and dark, I like how you started with the sun, and ended in the darkness, something I feel often.

I do prefer the sun...I like the twist where you go back into darkness...I'm happy to see the sun today after 3 days of clouds and rain.
