A Truce Between Me and You

The truth in a poem lies in the empty spaces between the words
salvation lies where sad blue notes sting and cling
and the ever constant pain of your absence
has not yet settled in my soul

My love lies in the fathomless depth of your sea-green eyes
that led me to sorrowful merciless minor chords but happy choruses
you’re gone but your melody embedded in my heart remains
and won't let go

I rejoiced yesterday when you called and said you would return soon
but I detected in your hesitant answers how empty your words were
if it weren’t for the relief your voice gave me
I would not feel secure and celebrate in joyous expectation

But in lonely anticipation I will sit and wait, without hope
