Notes About The Poem

If someone handed you a box with everything in it

that you had ever lost, what is the first thing you

would look for

a time to be glad

             the spark i once had
to wake beside mum and dad
               before i could add
that life can turn pretty bad
~ a time never to be sad

How sad to lose both parents. Great Tanka.

Thanks Victor, I was lucky to have both around til I reached adulthood, some of my friends lost parents at a very young age, turning their early lives into a living nightmare, cheers David

Usually, a tanka does not rhyme, but there's no rule against it. We were safe as children, but parents can't always protect us.

I knew my father could do anything. He's what I would search for. Rhyme away!

Of course they cannot Lin, but there was a time as a young child I believed they could, that is exactly the first thing I lost, and the first thing I would search for in that imaginary box, I seem to be on a monorhyme buzz at the moment, amazing the phases we go through, cheers David
