A Thousand Watts of Courage

Written: June 20, 2026, for a contest sponsored by Miranda Hawley ******************** He carries a thousand-watt smile to chronic pain— A sun susurrous through storm and strain. His quiet, weak speech goes unheard, and bound But his wispy humor is well-defined and sound. Through surgeries and illness, he stands tall, His drive radiates forth even when he must crawl. With spine, and stomach both feeble and torn— Inside him, it aches; his body is lethargic and worn. Being alive is a battle that his spirit must fight To bear the success, and embrace the light, His life is an endeavor, vibrant and bright— God bless his soul with a thousand-watt smile tonight,

That smile that makes you have to smile back. The strength to smile through all he has been through. Congratulations on achieving a high placement in the contest.

Congratulations dear poet on sharing the top podium in this contest. Your poem deeply resonates mith me and I seem to see myself behind your verses, with a fractured spine, stomatch and chest pains following open heart and intestine surgeries, defective heart valves, not to add a frozen shoulder in the wake of a stroke. In fact, I am trying to slowly lift my foot from the accelerator... Wish you a blessed day.

Even when he passes through severe illness and acute pain, he retains a positive attitude to life. His life is a struggle, still he bravely fights. Let us a wish him a Thousand Watts smile. Congratulations on your first place win.
