A Thespian I Would Be

If I weren't afraid, I'd act on the stage A thespian I would be When I witness a show I yearn to be up there as part of the company But deep down inside I am desperately shy An acting profession I'm too afraid to try Though way back in my past I have trodden those boards as I stood on that stage to rapturous applause For I feel quite at home as I walk through those doors and return to the stage to numerous encores In a future incarnation my soul may return To my spiritual domain upon the stage again For no longer afraid I’ll be plying my trade With a dance and a song truly back where I belong 2nd PLACE Written 11th September 2019 Contest: IF I WEREN’T AFRAID Sponsor: Line Gauthier Contest Strand Choice 8 Sponsor Brian Strand N/A

Shyness on stage is overcome through i Improvisational theater. It allows you to be you. Once that happens, the stage is a second home. I loved it... Take care Anne You are in my thoughts. No need to reply. 11/3/2019 Panagiota

You've written such a beautiful poem that touches at the heartstrings. Shyness is so very difficult to overcome. Unlike Andrea, my fear of speaking in public still sticks to me like glue. I could totally empathize with this poem. It's very good and I congratulate you. God bless you

Gosh, how lovely to meet you Regina and thank you so much for your wonderful comments. I have always suffered from shyness, and as I child someone only had to mention the word blush and my face would turn scarlet! Many thanks for your visit and your congrats. With kindest thoughts Ann xx

YOu did great with that theme, Anne. MY fear about acting in plays is not having to speak in public (since I overcame that fear as a teacher) but having to memorize all the darn lines. I am horrible with memorization!! Congrats for the deserved win.

You made me smile Ann, the only time I've been on the stage is with my poetry in front of over 600 people (including my mum) with a fundraiser for Parkinson's and Alzheimers. You are a poet and a singer and your talent shines on a global stage through poetry soup and with your choir:-) hugs Jan xx

Ohhhhh, you are too kind with your compliments dear Jan - thank you! That must have been amazing and scary at the same time to perform in front of 600 people - wow... Have a lovely weekend in the predicted sunshine. With kindest thoughts Ann xx

"Life is a stage..." so thespians just choose someone else's script, hence no reason at all to fear failure. Go for it - and win the contest, too! Aloha! Rico

Thank you so much Vijay, I do feel sure that way back I was an actor, as I have such a strong affinity with the theatre and each time I enter one I get tingles down my spine! but sadly in this life I would never have the confidence to perform, so instead I watch in awe as others entertain me. Lovely to hear from you my friend. With kindest thoughts Ann xx
