A Tall Tale

A young boy who was smaller than small
wanted only to grow very tall.
Any progress he got
his mom marked at the spot
where he’d stand next to their kitchen wall.

By thirteen, he’d grown barely an inch
since age ten, so he felt like the Grinch.
He drank milk to bestow
extra inches and grow
like the guys who grew tall in a cinch.

At age sixteen occurred something grand.
At his wall he can no longer stand.
He’s now seven foot, four
and must stoop at the door
to get into the kitchen. My land!

Cute tale, Andrea. I hit a full 5Ft tall (?) my freshman year of college. I turned 19 that year. Then grew 6 inches before hitting 21. Late bloomer, I guess. A poet friend in Texas, Bill

I knew a kid that was shorter than four feet. I went to college and when I got home and saw him at church two years later, he was taller than 6 foot five!! So it's possible, but I slightly exaggerated the end result!

Hello Andrea ... how true is your set of limericks. I think every child wants to be measured against a door jamb, but to make seven feet four; crikey - thank you Andrea - Lindsay

The USA doesn't have the really old homes of other countries where growing boys outgrow the small doorways of their ancestors, but when one is 7'4", try looking in any mirror to shave . . . .Enjoyed, Andrea! Aloha!
