A Spider
If a spider came along
crept up behind
and spun you
into its web
would you put
up a fight
cower in fright
or lie still waiting to be its fed
the fly beside you
drained of life
dried as a raisin
no sign of struggle or strife
around the web
bodies of the dead
taken by surprise
by the spider creeping ahead
your body is numb
poison creeps through your veins
and as much as you try
futile is your strain
your organs de-solidifying
melting from the inside out
as a king holding a grape vine
waiting to choose which juices to suckle about
the spider
this king of his domain
fangs above you
your escape attempts, and your body, lie in vain
