A Smile Is Worth a Thousand Words
Once upon a heart string, I wished with all my might
that you would turn and see me smiling in your sight.
You entered through the door of that long time ago.
I willed you look my way, naïve in doing so.
I wished you as my friend, and I a friend to you
but I was enrolled this very first day, as new.
You lightly walked across the room to sit with us,
began talking topics you wanted to discuss.
I couldn’t speak I was so insecure, quiet, and shy,
A bashful smile was all I could silently reply.
I asked some years after, why you went the extra mile
and you replied because I was the first one to smile.
