A Single Tear

Peppered with loss and misfortune, life's basted in a glaze of fear. And we are so exposed to pain; it fails to draw a single tear. Devastating wars and famine fuel the news brought to our door. And desensitized to torture, scenes of bloody beheadings bore. We're used to horrific events bombarding us with constant hurt. And our outlook on world affairs; is steeped in political dirt. A starving child prompts no response, nor stirs a compassionate thought. For death and disease are the norms, within countries where wars are fought. When corruption taints global views, empathy turns to apathy. And lives judged insignificant; no longer warrant sympathy.

A 7 rating for this deep soul-searching poem, Emile. What is happening to our world? Is no guiding hand manning the rudder? Has human life lost its significance? Much food for thought...Responsibility has to be shouldered. // paul
