A Single Song

After three years in desert heat
To Jerusalem I went
To wash the exalted feet
Of whom to Jews were sent

I met there with Cephas and with James
I presented myself to them
Even if we had different names
from the same branch we did stem

I then went hence for fourteen years
To gentiles far and wide
To preach with much pain and tears
The Gospel that divides

And then after all that time
Back to Jerusalem I went
To see if our messages did rhyme
Or if I had to repent

But what we found was of great worth
We found the message true
We found the message to be of birth
From same Man through and through

Yet today we all believe
That new words are to be said
And in own wisdom we perceive
That we are freshly led

But in all the time the Fathers walked
A single song to sing
And with their words the world was changed
As their words the Truth did bring

So the simple question is:
The new songs that are sung
Are they new and fresh and His
Or are they merely dung?
