A Silhouette of Love
A Shakespearean/English Sonnet
At first you dwelled in unrequited dreams
when last your gaze escaped beyond the tide,
to where the sunset's wink was just a gleam
and where my hopeful heart does gladly ride.
I ... much too shy to interrupt your gaze;
nor could I see that smiles were mixed with tears.
Your silhouette was blurred within the haze
where waves of thought were tossed through many years.
Yet somehow you could sense the fate we shared
as throngs upon the shore became but two -
then pain was worth the risk we once more dared
and passion was the sky in which we flew.
The night was one which never slipped away,
it lives within my thoughts through every day.
