A Shadow
My shadow is a pen
Writing down my footsteps,
My actions and my words;
My thoughts all into the
Burdens of mother earth.
Oh Lord, nothing is hidden
From Your grip:
You have spies and detectives
Everywhere, the whole of nature
Reports to You and keeps
My diaries etched in the earth:
There's no escape from You:
There's no shadow but Your shadow.
Let me speak good of my brothers,
As if I am writing
Memoirs on their fresh grave:
I am nothing better than them;
You have taken me this far
With nothing but Your mercy
And grace; otherwise
My shadow testifies as to
The many times it has shamed from me,
Yet it could not flee.
The golden earth is Your secret mirror,
Reflecting all our actions
Into the skies and sucking them
Into its burdens:
There's nothing hidden from You:
Forgive me, Most Gracious:
I stand at Your mercy.
