A Secret Kept


Long ago, on twilight’s breath,
There rose a beautiful whisper – so gentle
Flowing on the eve of a silent truth
Blessing away the past, inviting the new
Flowing like a river in brisk colors of magnificent,
Heady hopes, blowing with the wind’s prayers
In songs of glistening dew, alive – amused
Pouring out a peace that rises in victory
Conquering the night with firefly promises
And wonderful colors of love and grace,
Bringing alive the stories that won’t fade
Stories of a mystery who still persuades
A mystery, secreted beneath the quiet grave
Of a strange illusion, an impression of praise
Who rises in the heart, the soul, the spirit
Awakening a sense of life, a new beginning
Prepared by the One who sees, beyond the grave
Into the music of freedom that succeeds
At bringing life into the soul who grieves
Bringing love to the heart who believes
Bringing assurance to the spirit in need
A secret kept – a secret who agrees,
Beyond the shadows, as twilight melts away
And night takes over, releasing the sounds
Of a quiet echo, a feeling, a faded scent
Music to the one who sees, in the shadows
In the silence, in the wind’s gentle caress
A secret who knows, who feels, who shows
Whatever may come, there is victory approaching
For the one who sees, beyond the grief
Into the music, the mist of a quiet peace, the tone
Of a voice in the silent stars, a moon who believes
Where we are, never very far
From the wonder of joy lodged in the heart
Who knows, who believes, the secret kept
Is hidden in a prayer, a praise, a promise
Forever is sometimes the silent truth who stays
When everything else leaves
When everywhere else deceives
This is a secret kept, the secret seeded
Inside the soul who knows God’s peace
The stillness of a moment who never forgets
Even in the secret, there is serenity
Even in the knowing, there is tranquility
Flowing like the rivers who quietly succeed
In bringing their muse to the wind and the trees.
