A Second Home

The brisk wind whistles from treetops The snow crunches underneath my feet Another storm will be on the way The weather doesn’t skip a beat The sun glows on the hillside Billboards of shadows create games to play The squirrels try to steal all the food The birds keep trying, then fly away I wonder how they tolerate this cold I haven’t seen any of their homes yet But mine has become one of them On this, I can certainly bet! The birds in the eaves I don't mind so much -- but, the mice and squirrels, read my sign: "Keep out, or else". Well said, Heidi. Have a great day!

Roof-rats in Phoenix, huge! They can find their way into an attic, and cause a lot damage. Oh well, maybe they were here first:) Joe.

Well they aren't inside, but may get some warmth next to it and landing on the sill. The food helps them too, when they can get some apart from the squirrels. ! Thank you for your visit and comment Valsa :)

Interesting angle, Heidi. Never thought of myself as owning a second home -- for the birds and squirrels! At least Congress hasn't taxed me on my second home -- yet! lol... And belated congratulations to you on your endearing poem, POTD, on which you collaborated with Edward Ibeh! Here's to a third home somewhere (else). lol :) gw

I am happy you loved it Mike. There are less birds with the squirrels taking over and causing havoc. It looks like the storm will be a big one with lots of snow and hurricane force winds. The news now uses terms like bomb cyclone lol. Thank you for your kind comment. Happy Thursday :)

Despite the cold the birds and squirrels seem to hang around for the fun--I am seeing that all along --rain, shine, or snow. Wonderfully captured moments, Heidi.

Charming rhyme~winter seems to bring so much movement even though the plants and trees have gone to rest...you capture all the delightfulness that the winter has to offer. I am sure the birds will find safe haven at your home. Blessings, Paulette
