A Rugged Brawler

               his lacerated face bespoke
                  a rugged brawler
               a life pockmarked with fisticuffs
he’d truly once been a mauler

               ‘til one fateful evening
                   in a smoke-filled ring
his chin shattered ‘gainst a fist
~ tied him to apron strings

I'm struggling with 'Nursed, healed...captured... It's all about the struggle, I guess...

That's right. The deepest scars are in the heart.

Hello Gershon, I love how you distilled an entire life into a handful of tight, rhythmic lines. I felt a clean, punch-drunk music in the way you let the story land without ornament. Strong work, my friend. Blessings, Daniel

No longer the 'Manasseh Maler.' That was Jack Dempsey's nickname. He was a hard-punching heavyweight champ 100 years ago. Thanks, Tom.
