Notes About The Poem

A Quiet Love

One look is all it takes to spark romance
Heartstrings can feel the slightest gentle tug
An unassuming way, a playful glance
Then hearts begin to beat rhythms of love

Obsession fuels unquenchable desire
One stolen kiss will melt her in your arms
A slap of virtue sets a face on fire
Soft spoken words will quiet all alarms

But love is never easy, thus it's plight
Old fashioned customs build a brickless wall
To earn love and respect one has to fight
It seems at times love's power conquers all

Ironic how love makes us fight for peace
And quiet men will fight for love's release

Thank you for the advice , Jean. Your daughters are beautiful like their mama. I never was one to judge on appearances. However,I do like a woman with a little backbone. I appreciate your kindness. You are very sweet.

If the Duke is looking down (or up!), I'm sure he approves. "There’ll be no locks or bolts between us, Mary Kate -- except those in your own mercenary little heart!" -- Sean Thornton (John Wayne), The Quiet Man (1952)

Now that made me laugh out loud Tom. Thank you so much. It is a wonderful movie. They surely don't make them like the Duke or Maureen anymore. I also loved the role Barry Fitzgerald played. Just a fantastic movie! I really needed the laugh, Thank you my friend.

Oh Daniel, you have cited my favorite movie of all time! The late Maureen O'Hara was my favorite actress. I loved the movie so much I sought out the locations to visit while I was in Ireland. That movie had it all. Romance and entertainment of the highest degree. Your poem is a lovely tribute to love and how we often must fight for it. I loved this marvelous piece! 7 ; )

"a slap of virtue sets a face on fire" is a great line. This is very melodic and your early reference to heartstrings played perfectly into that. I envisioned a soft romantic guitar number in the background while reading this and added to the eloquence already provided by the words. A splendid write, Daniel. I'm going to do mine for this tomorrow after I clear my brain from the very unromantic piece I spent my day on. I hope what I come up with is half as good as yours
