Notes About The Poem

Acknowledgment

This is Psalm 22 rearranged for poetic nuance. The author of this Psalm is David. I want this to be clear to avoid being accused of plagiarism. The words are from David inspired by the Holy Spirit. I am the author only in that I rearranged the words, which are not my words but God's.

A Psalm 22 Treatise

David cried my God my God.
Jesus died my God my God.
Both forsaken by our God.
Shouting in agony to our God.

Why are you so far, groaning, groaning.
You do not help, you do not hear.
My cry in the daytime, in the night season.
You are holy inhabiting Israel’s praises.

Our fathers trusted, you delivered, no shame.
I am a worm, despised by people.
Not a man, a reproach of men, scorned.
Shaking their heads, they shout out their lips.

They said “let God rescue him, he trusted the Lord.
Since he delights in God, should he not deliver him?”
You took me from the womb, suckling I trusted you.
From birth, was I cast upon you.

From my mother’s belly you have been my God.
Trouble is near, don’t be far off, no one helps.
Encircled by strong bulls of Bashan, I’m surrounded.
As a roaring raging lion, their mouths gape at me.

Like water I’m poured out, my bones are disjointed.
My heart has melted within me like wax.
Like a potsherd my strength is dried up.
To the dust of death, you brought me, my tongue clings to my jaws.

Enclosed by the wicked congregation, dogs surrounded me.
My hands and feet pierced, all my bones I can count.
As they look and stare, my garments are among them divided.
The cast lots for my clothes.
