A Prelude To Reflection
My time in the museum was a prelude to reflection,
for in its many rooms I learned of the vicious acts of awful men
Whose pride had swallowed their humanity. I saw grim exhibits,
proof of how terrified prisoners far less fortunate than their peers
who died from gunfire had suffered gruesome torture, amazing in its brutality.
Oh, vindictive men who think themselves victorious!
If God Himself appeared to them, they’d likely patronize Him,
even knowing judgment time was near!
When I left the museum, the sky had darkened
as if in response to my feelings of dismay as I contemplated
how in modern times, nothing has been learned from history.
So many leaders horrific leaders of so-called civilized nations -
filthy liars with opaque motives. The wise can well see through them!
Finding myself at the opening of a park, I walked into a clearing.
An oval monolith had been erected in this beautifully spacious area.
The moon, once hidden by black clouds, suddenly emerged
as if its sole intent were to cast a lovely glow
upon this magnificent monolith. So delightful did this image appear
I wondered. . . whatever could it be? So I approached it,
and I read the names of prisoners inscribed on its illuminated surface.
Those were the names of those sacrificed to the whims of an evil few.
Their spirits long ago had fled to the heavens.
The light of the moon now reminded me
that darkness will not prevail.
