A Prayer Sonnet

Lord, make of me more than I am today, make opportunities for my life to shine. In the shadow of the cross I long to stay, accomplishing each task that you assign. Lord, I ask not that my path be smooth, but help me overcome the speed bumps of life. For the burdens I carry only YOU can soothe, and my day needn’t be filled with strife. But each thing that I’ll encounter today, is placed in my path not without cause. Perhaps to build my faith so I won’t stray, or merely to interrupt some unseen pause. But whatever it is that you’d have me do, in so doing I’ll have my thoughts on YOU.
