A Prayer Between Light and Dark

dear god or whatever you can begin me now begin me on a whiteboard a blackboard anything that can be erased my cookie was baked with bad blood begin me as if I were a dying fish on an alien shore gulping impossible air i took myself to the edge my chicken heart clutching a chicken-hearted prayer sorry i think i am resurfacing maybe drowning only ducks and whales can speak of this kind of up and down life a magnificent whatever ate me up like a half-eaten sandwich i want to say the date I died but it’s only a margin on a blank page a ledger of poetry never written now I am ready to begin to wipe this face away to hide myself away behind your big light i really mean it i think
