A poetic comeback

       Long has it been
Since with a pencil or pen,
I've written a poem of my own.
It's been quite some time
Since I've bothered to rhyme
So I shall give it another go.

   I've long had a hunch
And have worried a bunch
That my skills are not up to speed.
Do I still have the stuff?
And is it enough?
I guess we'll just have to see.

But here is my bind:
What should I rhyme?
There are many great forms of prose.
Humor? Romance?
A ballad, perchance?
Something with rhythm and flow.

When the time feels right
I'll sit down to write,
And craft poetry as never before.
I'll double my skills
And practice until
I'm the greatest forevermore.

All the ladies will swoon,
And be over the moon
For a marvelous poet like me!
And then, just as planned,
They'll all beg for my hand;
Hundreds of wives, for free!

But just you wait,
That's not all on my plate!
Just think of the attention and fame!
I'll be hero to all!
An international doll!
The whole world will cherish my name.

And then come the stacks
Of lovely green cash!
I'll be richer than anyone else.
My coffers will shine;
On caviar, I'll dine!
With my unfathomable mountain of wealth.

With my poems I'll rise
To unimaginable highs!
Nothing could stop my flight.
I'll soar to the skies,
Win the ultimate prize!
But one problem: I don't know what to write.

A wonderfully self-aware, jaunty piece of light verse. The rolling rhyme and conversational rhythm make the speaker’s wildly escalating dreams—from romantic conquest to caviar-fuelled poetic glory—especially comic, and the final admission lands perfectly: after all that grand ambition, the only obstacle is finding something to write.❤️

I love the rhythm and rhyme pattern in this poem. Has a lovely bounce to it and light hearted feel. Fun and humorous. Its a brilliant irony that not knowing what to write resulted in this fantastic write. Very much enjoyed 😄😉

You only need one admirer, perhaps on a blanket with a lovely picnic, and she will inspire you. Then you will be rich ✍️
