A Perfect Place I Knew
Arabella’s 18th birthday
Darling granddaughter of mine
A special treat
A unique ‘do’
A celebration for just us two
At a perfect place I knew
Board a train to the metropolis
hail a cab through London’s streets
we approach our destination
and our excitement soars
With a welcome smile
he gently opens up our taxi doors
and thrilled to bits to hear him say
“Good morning ladies ~ welcome to the Ritz”
Luggage discreetly whisked away
by a smartly dressed porter
with a boyish grin
We ascend marble steps
through revolving doors
to a world of sumptuous luxury
full of stylish glitz
We have now arrived
We are inside The Ritz
Michael de Cova ~ Head Concierge
his endearing smile
and friendly demeanour
offers his hand
as he welcomes us both
to our overnight stay
on this very special day
here to celebrate
Arabella's 18th birthday
As we open the door
to our luxurious rooms
dressed in blue and cream décor
in stylish splendour we are swathed
Pink marble in our bathroom
splendid luxury pervades
Our rooms go truly far beyond
even our wildest dreams
and as our eyes soon realise
all needs are met it seems
A birthday card
A birthday cake
A box of matches too
to light the candle on her cake
these personal touches
her day they make
Whilst cooling in silver
and packed tight with ice
our glass flutes are filled
bubbles feeling so nice
As we raise a glass
filled with Ritz Champagne
With laughter and joy
so glad that we came
Both dressed to impress
she wore her emerald green dress
at the Palm Court Restaurant
laid for afternoon tea
in the iconic hotel Ritz
‘Tis Arabella Rose and Me
Whilst enjoying every mouthful
we hear sounds of music floating by
For sitting at a grand piano
in white tuxedo and black bow tie
A man named Ian brings keys to life
exquisite fingers make them sing
the music he plays will always bring
a smile ~ a dance ~ a memory
with his expertise and talent
and the twinkle in his eyes
for Ian’s love of music
truly cannot be disguised
And for twenty years or more
He plays the songs that folk adore
Each and every person
within the Ritz hotel
their aim it seems
to make your stay
beyond your wildest dreams
For they love the Ritz
as much as I
it’s in their face
it's in their eyes
So thank you one and all
We both truly had a ball
sending love
sending thanks
as we plan a future trip
hope to see you all again
maybe sometime in the Fall…
Inspired by our wonderful stay at The Ritz 19th – 20th August 2019
