Notes: Sat with a coffee watching people outside going about their business then it rains. Some make their show in running as if the world is ending among those who carry on as if nothing happened. Interesting how people react. On a deeper level this could indicate personality type and how we deal with life events.

The technical level is where the irony of the poem really sits.Two stanzas indicating optimism and pessimism. The syllable count per line mirroring in both stanzas therefore the irony is two stanzas technically constructed the same in two stanzas of difference.

Plus I read it over and over thinking it needed more than two verses but I didn’t want a third as that would have ruined the effect explained above.

I decided to finish with an Envoy; basically a poetic ‘therefore’, conclusion to the main text.

I rewrote the last line several times and found the pleasing effect that ‘may rain’ sounds a little bit like ‘remain’ and that audibly, almost, they’re anagrams of each other. Of course, they’re not, but I was pleased with it as ‘may rain’, ‘measure’ and ‘remain’ all contain the letters m and r so I settled on it.
