July 11, 2023 for Eve Roper's Start Jamming Any Rhyming Form Poetry Contest

A panda, I will make you smile “Aw”
to see me so small in my mama’s paw.
By just two months old I have learned to walk.
I eat bamboo young. This is how I talk:

I bleat, croak, squeak, honk, make a huff, or growl.
The one thing for sure I do not do is howl.
After some months, Mom sends me on my way.
Most of us in China can be found today.

We eat in bamboo patches, but when done,
we have to go and find another one!
People keep building things. We lose our space
We need humans’ help to find us a place.

A world treasure, I’m sure you know my name.
My picture gave World Wildlife Fund its fame.
Help this “bear cat” who rarely touches meat.
I’m just a cutie, black and white and sweet.

This is so beautiful, equally entertaining and informative. I have seen only the pictures of them, but do not know their habits or ways. Thank you Andrea for sharing ! Congratulations on your first place win.

Pandas are adorable. I hope they will make refuges for them. We don’t need another extinct species to mourn about and say if only we had taken measures sooner. They are irreplaceable. SuZ

Enjoyed the panda poem...they are amazing to watch. They sound noisier than the black bears we've been getting in our back yard, that aren't too cute a few yards away.
