A Palindrome: Mothers and Daughters and Mothers

I screamed at her
like some wicked hellion
trying to rip apart her world.
I was the embodiment of rivalry.

She was growing older. I fed on the rage
I stole from her, I loved young,
I loved hard and fast, and anyone
she hated. I loved like a forest fire

and she could do nothing about it.
She was just my step-mother

Or she was, when I moved in with the guy
about six years older
Then I met her.
She was about six years old-
or she was, when I moved in with the guy.

I was just her step-mother,
and I could do nothing about it.

She hated that I loved like a forest fire.
I loved hard and fast, and anyone.
I stole from her, I loved young.
She was growing older, I fed on the rage

I was the embodiment of rivalry
trying to "rip apart her world
like some wicked hellion"
I screamed at her.

A warm welcome to poetry soup Andrea! The way you have used this form to express the emotions of the mother daughter struggle is ingenious. An intricately savvy offering that displays how talented you are. This is a memorable first post! I will enjoy reading more of your work. Blessings, Connie

Hi Andrea, I thank you for the visit. :) I too came by to visit in hopes you had a new write. I will come back tomorrow in hopes you post another poem. I read this one again. It's an honest and powerful poem. I have a step-mother. I loved her all the day of her life, Even now in death, I miss her. I never thought much of the times she would yell. Yes, everyone called her wicked women, but she was my mother. Who I would not change for another. Take care... LINDA

WOW, Andrea, Welcome to Poetry soup, I hope you enjoy the community. Here, you will find friendly poets who enjoy supporting one another. I myself, enjoy reading and commenting those who want to be read. The only time I give constructive criticism is when a poet desires it. However, if for some reason the poem is not my field I will guide you to someone who is more qualified than I. Stop by and read one of my poems if you like. My poems are not perfect, but I have a feeling you might like one. I encourage you to check out the contest page and read to receive comments. Tell me a little about your poetic skills if you like. It will be my pleasure to follow and read every poem you post from here on :) We are Lucky To Have you. Your New Poet Friend @-> LINDA <-@

=O I FOUND THE REPLY BUTTON! Thank you for the comment. I really appreciate critiques/reviews/constructive criticism, whatever you want to call it so please, if you have something to say, say it. I'm of the opinion that we post to improve, and you can't do that if you only know what you're doing well. Anyway, thank you so much for your encouragement Linda <3
